Dr. Yanik Becker started as a Patent Attorney Candidate at Wallinger Ricker Schlotter Tostmann in November 2021. Before his career in the field of intellectual property, Dr. Becker studied chemistry in Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Edinburgh, Scotland. He obtained his doctorate in Kaiserslautern on studies focused on the synthesis of heteroaromatic ligands and organo-metallic catalysts. Within WR, Dr. Becker is part of the chemistry/pharma group.

Technical Background

Dr. Becker graduated in chemistry from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, focused on general chemistry. In his Master‘s program, Dr. Becker focused in organic chemistry and synthesis. The thereby gathered knowledge was further supplemented by a stay abroad at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, during which Dr. Becker did a research project in the field of microbiology/biochemistry on the topic of artificial metalloenzymes. His doctoral studies were carried out at the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, focusing on heteroaromatic ligand synthesis and organometallic complex chemistry within the Collaborative Research Center „3Met“ for mono- and polynuclear complex compounds. The obtained metal-containing compounds may be used in a wide variety of fields, such as metathesis reactions, transfer hydrogenations or water oxidation (as a sub-process of artificial photosynthesis).

Legal Expertise in IP

Based on his experience gained in research and development, Dr. Becker has been mainly involved in patent prosecution proceedings before the German and European Patent Offices, FTO analyses and drafting applications in the fields of organic chemistry, catalysts and material sciences since 2021.
